Encouraging the "inside" voice
Screaming is one of the less pleasant habits your toddler might develop. As with everything else in her life, she's constantly experimenting, and her voice is an instrument that can do all kinds of neat things. What's more, shrieking gets immediate attention.
Some kids condition their parents to give in to make the shrieks stop. To avoid that, explain that yelling hurts your ears. Tell your child that you can't respond until she uses a normal voice. But take care not to yell your instructions. You can also say, "That's your outside voice. It's okay to use your outside voice when we're playing at the park."
Show your child other ways to have fun with her voice, like whispering or singing. I saw charlotte pick up a flash light and start singing into it like she was on stage! so cute!! In fact, if you really want to get your child's attention, try lowering your voice to a whisper – it's even more powerful than raising the volume. It sounds not only different from the usual but special and secretive, and just might stop her in her tracks.
The totes are in place so the toys are ready to be played with! Charlotte gets so excited to go to the basement now! We have officially put all of her toys in the basement so if a room gets dirty it is the basement and no one will know because I can just shut the door!
The rest of the furniture will be delivered next week and then we are done and can move on to Charlotte's new big girl room! She is making the move in the next couple of weeks! Oh and potty training has been put on hold because of the other changes(new bedroom/new bed/new sibling) going on in her life!
It may look like she is using her inside voice but she is not! |
How your baby BOY is growing: (22 weeks down, now in my 23 week!)
At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
5 1/2 months preggers! This week I felt more kicks/twists/twirls then ever before! This little man is moving a mile a minute. Last night I felt the first bit of pain which I pretty sure was my uterus growing/stretching. It is a very uncomfortable feeling but you know your body is getting ready to make more room for your little bundle.
I have officially made the switch to maternity clothes and let me tell you they are so much more comfortable then trying to work with the belly band or belly belt. I have started to use the this "C" shapped pillow to help support my belly when sleeping. It works great but it is not the smallest pillow so it feels like I'm taking so much more room in the bed! Sorry Steve!
This week I finally started shopping for little man! He now has a couple of little blue outfits and a seat in our new double stroller. Making progress!
