Sibling Love and Charlotte's Bible Study graduation

Charlotte and George are enjoying these last couple of weeks of being a family of four. They are soaking up all the love(attention) they are getting! They are playing so well together and actually sharing toys... a miracle! I hope this lasts..
Grocery store fun!

Bedtime stories... George the book is upside down :)

Bath time fun

Charlotte walked during her graduation of Bible Study! She enjoyed her time with her new friends and teachers while learning all about the Bible. She comes home singing her songs and reciting her Bible verses. We will miss this next year since we will be driving to Des Moines for her food desensitization.

Good job Charlotte!

Proud lil brother!

We had another ultrasound and she is now in the 40% and head down! She is a movin and a shakin like crazy looking for more room. Sorry girlfriend, not much more room!

How your baby's growing:

By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus.  She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.
Jicama. The size of baby at 32 weeks. Not something I ever crave
Squash. The size of the baby at 32 weeks.
We have around 2 months/60 days left! Cannot believe it! I am really trying to enjoy my last couple of weeks with her. It is a little hard because I am starting to get uncomfortable. I started having contractions twice an hour. I'm not concerned but kinda crazy how each pregnancy is a little different and how your body becomes a little bit more relaxed each time. I think a long massage is in order!

Go daddy!

Steve decided last fall that he really wanted to do the Omaha triathlon. At first I thought he was kidding and crazy but he was not joking. He invested in a nicer bike than his original Wal-mart bike he bought back in college and started biking to work until to got too cold to ride. He has always been a strong swimmer since his early grade school days so that comes natural to him. And because he was brought up an athlete, running wasn't a hard adjustment either.
What has he been doing to get ready?? He will ride his bike to work (9 miles) then at lunch time he will run to the gym (2 miles) then swim (1 mile) at the gym then run (2 miles) back to work. Finish the day by riding (9 miles) back home. So he has already been training and it looks like he already does a triathlon everyday he rides to work. I'm amazed and so proud! You better believe that the kiddos will be in "That's my daddy" shirts cheering on dada come July 21st!

OLYMPIC DISTANCE

The olympic distance is our main course for this event. The distances consist of a 1500 meter swim, a 40KM bike, and a 10K run. With a little training, anyone can complete this distance.
race omaha Olympic Swim CourseTHE SWIM - 1500 Meters, just under one mile. The swim starts at the boat dock along the South shore in a rectangular pattern and back to the boat ramp for transition.
race omaha Olympic Bike CourseTHE BIKE - The bike course is a 40 km, out and back, fast and rolling course. This is a great improvement over the original 2010 course. Out past Lake Cunningham East on State St. then North on 72nd, West on Bennington Road, merge right to HWY 36, and turn-around at Bennington Lake. Follow the same course back to the lake area.
race omaha Olympic Run CourseTHE RUN - 10 km run along the trail on the West side of Cunningham Lake to Garvin Rd. Then take 96th to Hwy 36 and back.

Also....
Steve received a miter saw for Christmas and he was just waiting for the perfect time to start using it. Our first project was a family chalkboard. Steve found the perfect pieces of wood to put it together. Check it out!

Generations

I started digging through all of Charlotte's old clothes to see if any would work for our lil miss Junebug. Some will work and some will not since there is a 6 month difference between the girls. But I did find some clothes that I wore when I was a wee little one and some that even my mom wore!
The photos will not turn, sorry :)

I wore all of these and the bottom three dresses my mom wore also! Pretty cool that my girlies will  wear them too!

Here I am wearing the yellow lacoste onesie. Nice stash dad!  Lindsey is one proud sis!
On my first birthday! Wearing the light pink dress in the photo above. Thank you Lindsey for passing out the goodies!
I look ecstatic :)
Here is Charlotte wearing the blue dress with little chicks for her first Easter.
They just do not make clothes the way they used to. Here is the proof!

The incredible edible egg- Not yet but soon!

The beginning of our journey to Egg Desensitization....
We drove to Des Moines to meet a new allergist for Charlotte to start seeing and we really liked her and felt at ease with Charlotte severe food allergies. She came in the room and we immediately bombarded her with questions and she patiently answered all of our questions and then some! She said that Charlotte is a great candidate for food desensitization. And we actually signed her up and made an appointment to start the program after an hour and a half of talking and making sure this was right for Charlotte and our family!
We have decided to start with egg whites since this will open up so many more foods for her to start eating. So our first step is for her to be desensitized to egg then will come peanuts, then eventually all the nuts.
This is how the process will work...
The program introduces very small amounts of an allergen(egg) in a powder solution over a period of months as determined by the doctor.  Each week, the solution becomes more concentrated, and as the child advances, small doses of the whole food are introduced for an additional time frame (again as determined by the doctor), resulting in tolerance to the allergen, thus allowing the child to consume  eggs without any adverse reactions.
The first appointment is scheduled in Des Moines for 4 hours. We will arrive with lots of activities to keep us entertained as we will be limited to our exam room and the restroom. The nurse will bring in the first dose of powder solution.   After each dose, Charlotte is required to take a drink of another beverage and swish it around in his mouth to avoid any contact sensations.  We are allowed to bring a drink of our choice, which I'm sure I will bring something fun so she will want to drink it down:).    We will repeat this process every 15 minutes for 3 hours.  Once Charlotte has had the 12th and final dose of the egg powder solution, we will wait for an hour in the office to make sure there are no reactions.  My understanding is that after 3 doses of the solution it is made a little stronger and more concentrated building up the amount of egg in the solution – but yet it was still not quite enough for his body to be able to detect it.
After this first visit we will bring home the egg powder which will be scary. Once there is a baseline of egg solution in Charlotte’s body, we will need to keep up the doses at home twice every day until our next visit to Des Moines the next week.   Each week the doctor will increase in concentration which we will increase our amount at home to keep it maintained until the following week.

There is an emotional side to this process for me.  The first couple home doses will be very difficult for me to give to Charlotte.  Just knowing that I am giving my daughter something that her body naturally rejects and finds harmful will be hard for me.  I will feel like I am poisoning her in some way.  However, we have prayed about this program and I trust Dr. Molis 100%.  The success rate for this program is 100%.  What a blessing for a mother to know that there is something out there that can FINALLY help my child’s allergies.  I can’t wait to have Charlotte's birthday party in December and her be able to eat a regular birthday cake and ice cream! Plus we will be able to buy food, and plan meals with just a little bit more ease.
It’s estimated that with the egg allergy this process takes approximately 5-6 months.  It can take longer depending on each child.  Once the child graduates from the program, they will eat one tablespoon of egg powder twice a day — every day — as maintenance.  In addition, Charlotte will also be able to consume as many eggs and egg products as she wants. Cinnamon rolls, pizza, pasta, dinner roll, cupcakes, marsh mellows, cookies, baked breads, etc.
They don't look so harmful do they..

Next Easter she will be able to decorate real eggs!

Epi-Pen is getting a run for its money... Hello Auvi-Q!

Auvi-Q is the new Epi-Pen! Here is what makes it easily accessible and easy to use for all ages.
Much smaller and easier to store
the size of a credit card and fits in your pocket
smaller than an iphone
Takes 5 seconds to inject rather than 10 seconds
It is voice activated. So when you are in a state of anaphylaxis you can be talked through how to use the device so there is no mistaking how to use or what to do.
It holds the exact same amount of epinephrine and comes in a youth size and adult size. It just came out early this year and has been in the works for a couple years now.
Twin brothers came up with the idea when they both suffered from food allergies and felt that it was hard to carry around such odd shaped and large medical device to save them from anaphylaxis. So what did they do?! They came up with a better idea so that it will fit in your pocket and will talk to you in case you forget how to administer or are with someone that needs a reminder of how to use.
Twin brothers that invented the Auvi-Q

This is just pure genius to me because when you are in a state of panic the last thing you want to do is read directions or worry you are doing something wrong in the moment. Plus not everyone around Charlotte is as up to speed with how a auto-injectors work as we are so this make us feel more comfortable with her being out and about doing normal activities.
What are the cons?? Only one and I don't think it even counts. Auvi-Q cost $25 dollars more than that Epi-Pen. But to me there is no price on saving a life so $25 is not considered a con to me.

Thank you Eric and Evan Edwards!

Happy Birthday Matthew

Matthew turned 2 with a Barney/dino theme! He made out with a TON of toys and tool kit! I would say he is set  atleast until Christmas! Happy Birthday Matthew

Easter

What a beautiful weekend! Friday it was in upper 60's and lower 70's and on Saturday and Sunday we reached the lower 60's. I feel like we finally thawed out a little from this LONG winter. We sat outside and soaked it all up!
This Easter weekend was jammed packed with fun! Friday night we went swimming with ya ya and dude and had a great time. This was the first time Charlotte felt comfortable floating by herself and jumping in without assistance! It was a great time.
Saturday we started off the celebration of Lindsey's birthday with mimosas and Cinnamon rolls! The girls went to get manicures and pedicures while the boys and kiddos went to the park. After naps and lunch we headed to the neighborhood Easter egg hunt that I helped put it all together.  Saturday night the adults went out for dinner to continue the celebrating!
Sunday morning came bright and early with Church then brunch. We met the Easter bunny again and it seemed like the kids had warmed up to the Easter bunny this year. George gave him high fives and knuckles while Charlotte gave him a hugs!
What a fun filled weekend
