Auvi-Q is the new Epi-Pen! Here is what makes it easily accessible and easy to use for all ages.
Much smaller and easier to store |
the size of a credit card and fits in your pocket |
smaller than an iphone |
Takes 5 seconds to inject rather than 10 seconds |
It is voice activated. So when you are in a state of anaphylaxis you can be talked through how to use the device so there is no mistaking how to use or what to do. |
It holds the exact same amount of epinephrine and comes in a youth size and adult size. It just came out early this year and has been in the works for a couple years now.
Twin brothers came up with the idea when they both suffered from food allergies and felt that it was hard to carry around such odd shaped and large medical device to save them from anaphylaxis. So what did they do?! They came up with a better idea so that it will fit in your pocket and will talk to you in case you forget how to administer or are with someone that needs a reminder of how to use.
Twin brothers that invented the Auvi-Q |
Here is the article that explains it all. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/02/business/auvi-q-challenges-epipen-with-a-new-shape-and-size.html?pagewanted=2&_r=0
This is just pure genius to me because when you are in a state of panic the last thing you want to do is read directions or worry you are doing something wrong in the moment. Plus not everyone around Charlotte is as up to speed with how a auto-injectors work as we are so this make us feel more comfortable with her being out and about doing normal activities.
What are the cons?? Only one and I don't think it even counts. Auvi-Q cost $25 dollars more than that Epi-Pen. But to me there is no price on saving a life so $25 is not considered a con to me.
Thank you Eric and Evan Edwards!
Great man! You have really done the hard working on this post
